Get ready for spring summer 2011
I can’t wait for the moment when I pack my duvet parka under the bed, yeeha! Because this Spring sees some seriously lovely trends hit the shops, from electric dreams to The Great Gatsby. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel is set to hit our screens this year. Red hot 1920’s lips and Dark Silver beaded and sequinned waterfall tops and dresses inspired the runways, see Halston Heritage, Galliano and Marchesa. Perfect for floating through Spring weddings and summer nights.
Oh starry, starry night…expect dresses and t-shirts to turn you into a cosmic and celestial being, inspiration taken from NASA’s space imagery not The Care Bears..! There are some awesome pieces out there such as Jimmy Choo’s diamante scarf, and gorgeous Christopher Kane Galaxy-inspired print dresses retailing at £220. Expect less astronomically priced versions at Topshop.
Sticking with the wow-factor you’ll need sunglasses to take in all the bright electric shades - tangerine, colbalt blue and lemon yellow against clashing pink will saturate the high street rails, and it seems that its ok to wear two or three shades together like a Rainbow. (See Jil Sander).
Inspired by Led Zepplin in their heyday, Seventies glamour is making a comeback - over the top fringing and Scraggly long hair. Flares too. I can see Glastonbury’s fields awash with tassles and frayed scarves this year. Topshop’s Unique collection has a mix of chiffon crop tops, low cut flares and frayed scarves, of course this concoction can only be worn with crimped hair. Good luck.
If you are planning to compete with the bride at a wedding this summer, then this is certainly the trend for you. White dresses adorned the catwalk at Dolce and Gabbana, and they are gorgeous! Like something out of a Tsar’s dream, these beautiful beaded snow-white dresses satisfy everyone from the embellished Princess mini dress to the diamante beaded bolero. Yum!
Thank Goodness the maxi dress is back this year, we thought it was a one-hit-wonder, phew! You’ll see it in bold prints and colours, less floral and more statement. Also back on the rails is the James Dean leather jacket, and Tan accessories to match summer dresses, so good news is you don’t have to buy a completely new wardrobe! Enjoy!
